Our History

The Ontario Association of Radiology Managers (OARM) was founded on May 13, 1983, in response to a growing need for connection, education and communication among imaging leaders across Ontario.

The idea began in the early 1980s with a group of dedicated radiology managers who recognized the value of creating a province-wide professional network. Many were members of the Association of Administrative Radiological Technologists of Metropolitan Toronto Hospitals, which operated from 1968 to 1982.

In September 1982, the group organized an information seminar to gauge interest in forming a provincial association. The response was overwhelmingly positive, prompting the creation of a steering committee to establish a formal organization.

On May 13, 1983, after much enthusiastic discussion about its name and future, OARM officially came into being at the Carlton Hotel in Toronto. The Association began with approximately 75 charter members representing all imaging disciplines.

Three years later, in 1986, OARM was incorporated. Today, more than four decades after its founding, the Association, now known as MILO (Medical Imaging Leaders of Ontario), has grown to more than 160 members representing a diverse range of imaging leadership roles, including Directors, Managers, Team Leads, Charge Technologists, Supervisors and Professional Associates.

What began as a small group of professionals looking to connect and share knowledge has grown into a strong province-wide community. MILO continues to support imaging leaders through collaboration, education and the sharing of knowledge and experience—helping advance the future of imaging across Ontario.
